A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT to adopt the fayetteville fried chicken festival as the official fried chicken festival of the state of north carolina.
Whereas, North Carolina's poultry industry has an economic impact of over $36 billion and produces more than 126,000 jobs; and
Whereas, one of the best known poultry dishes is fried chicken, which is a common staple in many Southern households; and
Whereas, a festival designed to celebrate fried chicken will be held in the City of Fayetteville the third weekend in May in 2017, and annually thereafter; and
Whereas, the festival will bring together farmers, consumers, and cooks to show off the best that the State has to offer related to fried chicken; and
Whereas, this festival will serve as a great marketing and promotional tool for Fayetteville, surrounding communities, and the State; Now, therefore,
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. Chapter 145 of the General Statutes is amended by adding a new section to read:
"§ 145‑49. Fried chicken festival.
The Fried Chicken Festival, held the third weekend of May of every year in the City of Fayetteville, is adopted as the official fried chicken festival of the State of North Carolina."
SECTION 2. This act is effective when it becomes law.
