A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to amend the law regarding change orders on school construction projects.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  G.S. 115C‑521 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:

"(h) All change orders involving school construction contracts shall be approved by the local board of education, except as follows:

(1) The superintendent, or superintendent's designee, may approve a change order in an amount of less than ten thousand dollars ($10,000).

(2) In the event of an emergency, the chair of the local board of education may approve other change orders at the request of the superintendent. The superintendent shall report such change orders to the local board of education at its next regularly scheduled meeting."

SECTION 2.  This act becomes effective July 1, 2015.
