Certification of Automobile Insurance Coverage by Insurance Companies.

§ 20‑319.1.  Company to forward certification within seven days after receipt of request.

Upon the receipt by an insurance company at its home office of a registered letter from an insured requesting that it certify to the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles whether or not a previously issued policy of automobile liability insurance was in full force and effect on a designated day, it shall be the duty of such insurance company to forward such certification within seven days. § 20‑319.2.  Penalty for failure to forward certification.

If any insurance company shall without good cause fail to forward said certification within seven days after its receipt of such registered letter, the North Carolina Commissioner of Insurance shall  be authorized in his discretion to impose a civil penalty upon said company in the amount of two hundred dollars ($200.00) for such violation.
