SENATE BILL 795

 

AN ACT TO MAKE ELECTION DAY A HOLIDAY FOR ALL CHILDREN ENROLLED IN THE BURKE COUNTY SCHOOLS.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

 

Section 1.  G.S. 115C-84 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:

"(g)      Election Day. - The Tuesday after the first Monday in November of even-numbered years shall be a holiday for all children enrolled in the public schools, but shall be a workday for all school employees, unless designated as a holiday by the local board of education.

This section shall not be construed to affect the total number of (i) days children are required to attend school, (ii) workdays for  all school employees, or (iii) holidays, in the school calendar."

Sec. 2.  This act applies only to the Burke County School Administrative Unit.

Sec. 3.  This act becomes effective December 1, 1993.

In the General Assembly read three times and ratified this the 1st day of June, 1993.
