AN ACT TO AMEND G.S. 136-89.56 TO PROVIDE FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF LOGOS ON CONTROLLED ACCESS HIGHWAYS.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

 

Section 1. G.S. 136-89.56 is amended by adding a new paragraph after the last sentence to read as follows:

"The location of fuel and other service facilities may be indicated to the users of the controlled access facilities by appropriate logos placed on signs owned, controlled, and erected by the Department of Transportation. The owners, operators or lessees of fuel and other service facilities who wish to place a logo identifying their business or service on a sign shall furnish a logo meeting the size, style and specifications determined by the Department of Transportation and shall pay the Department for the costs of initial installation and subsequent maintenance. The Board of Transportation shall have the authority to set an annual fee not less than the estimated cost of installation and maintenance."

Sec. 2. This act shall become effective at such time as sufficient money shall be appropriated, but in no event until July 1, 1981.
