AN ACT TO AMEND CHAPTER 20 OF THE GENERAL STATUTES TO PERMIT SPECIAL TRANSPORTER PLATES FOR THE LIMITED MOVEMENT OF REPLACED VEHICLES FOR SALE.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

 

Section 1.  The first five lines of G.S. 20-79.2(a), beginning with "A" and ending with ":", are rewritten to read as follows:

"A person engaged in a business requiring the limited operation of motor vehicles to facilitate the manufacture or construction of cabs or bodies or the foreclosure or repossession of such motor vehicles, or a public utility, as defined in G.S. 62-3(23)a, engaged in the movement of replaced vehicles for sale, may apply to the Commissioner for special registration to be issued to and used by the person or utility upon the following conditions:".

Sec. 2.  G.S. 20-79.2(a)(5) is rewritten to read as follows:

"(5)      Use. Transporter number plates issued under this section may be transferred from vehicle to vehicle, but shall be used only for the limited operation of vehicles in connection with the manufacture or construction of cabs or bodies or with the foreclosure or repossession of vehicles owned or controlled by the registrant, or, if the registrant is a public utility, for the limited movement of vehicles in connection with the sale of a replaced vehicle."

Sec. 3.  This act shall become effective July 1, 1979.
