AN ACT TO AMEND G.S. 115-147 TO PROVIDE THAT ANY PUPIL WHO IS SUSPENDED OR DISMISSED FROM A PUBLIC SCHOOL FOR THE SECOND TIME DURING THE SAME SCHOOL TERM SHALL NOT BE ENTITLED TO RETURN TO SCHOOL DURING THAT TERM WITHOUT THE EXPRESS APPROVAL OF THE SUPERINTENDENT.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

 

Section 1.  G.S. 115-147 is amended by adding the following sentence at the end of the first full sentence:

"Provided further, any student who is suspended or dismissed more than once during the same school term shall be subject to permanent dismissal for the remainder of the school term at the discretion of the principal, with the approval of the superintendent. In the absence of an abuse of discretion, the decision of the principal, with the approval of the superintendent, shall be final."

Sec. 2.  This act shall become effective upon its ratification.
