AN ACT TO INCREASE THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE McDOWELL COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS AND TO PROVIDE FOR THEIR TERM OF OFFICE AND ELECTION.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1. The Board of County Commissioners of McDowell County is now composed of J. B. Walker, Jr., whose term shall expire in 1970; Dr. O. D. Rowe, whose term shall expire in 1972; and Pierce Bradley, Jr., whose term shall expire in 1974.

Beginning with the primary and general election to be held in 1970, the Board of County Commissioners of McDowell County shall consist of five members to be elected for terms of four years. In 1970, the term of the incumbent member then expiring and the two additional seats created by this paragraph shall be filled. The two members elected in 1970 with the highest number of votes shall serve terms of four years and the members elected with the lowest number of votes shall serve a term of two years; in 1972 and biennially thereafter, all expiring terms of office shall be filled by members elected for terms of four years.

Sec. 2. All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.

Sec. 3. This Act shall take effect upon its ratification.
