AN ACT RELATING TO THE COMPENSATION AND TRAVEL ALLOWANCE OF CERTAIN OFFICIALS AND EMPLOYEES OF HYDE COUNTY.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1. In lieu of all other compensation, the Clerk of the Superior Court of Hyde County shall be paid a monthly salary to be fixed by the Board of County Commissioners in an amount of not less than three hundred thirty-five dollars ($335.00) and not more than four hundred thirty-five dollars ($435.00) per month, to be paid from the general fund of Hyde County. The amount of such monthly salary shall be fixed on or before July 3, 1967, and the salary so fixed shall be effective from July 1, 1967 until such time as said clerk will become a State official under the Uniform Court Act in December, 1968.

Sec. 2. From and after July 1, 1967, the Register of Deeds of Hyde County shall be paid such annual salary as may be fixed by the Board of County Commissioners of Hyde County in an amount not less than four thousand dollars ($4,000.00) nor more than five thousand two hundred dollars ($5,200.00) per year, payable in equal monthly installments out of the general fund of the county.

On or before July 3, 1967, said Board shall fix the salary of said Register of Deeds for the period beginning July 1, 1967, and ending on the first Monday in December, 1970. On or before the first Monday in April, 1970, said Board shall fix said salary for said Register for the four-year term of office beginning on the first Monday in December, 1970. On or before the first Monday in April of each four-year period thereafter, said Board shall fix said Register's salary to be effective for the next ensuing four-year term to begin on the first Monday in December following the date when said salary is set.

Should said Board fail or neglect to set the Register's salary as above provided, the salary schedule then in effect for said Register shall continue in effect for the next four-year term.

The Clerk of the Superior Court and the Register of Deeds of Hyde County shall continue to collect the fees of their office, but they shall pay them into the general fund of said county.

Sec. 3. Beginning on the first Monday in December, 1968, each member of the Hyde County Board of Education and the Hyde County Board of County Commissioners shall be paid twenty-five dollars ($25.00) per day while engaged in the duties of their office, said compensation to be payable from the same funds as the per diem presently being received.

Sec. 4. The Board of County Commissioners of Hyde County shall annually fix the rate of mileage allowance for officials and employees of Hyde County who are entitled to a mileage allowance, which rate shall be uniform, and which rate shall be not less than eight cents (8¢) nor more than ten cents (10¢) per mile of actual travel.

Sec. 5. All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 6. This Act shall be in full force and effect from and after its ratification.
