AN ACT TO AMEND CHAPTER 380, SESSION LAWS OF 1959, RELATING TO THE TRAVEL ALLOWANCE OF THE SHERIFF OF MACON COUNTY, AND FURTHER RELATING TO THE CREATION OF THE OFFICES OF TAX SUPERVISOR AND TAX COLLECTOR.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1. Section I of Chapter 380, Session Laws of 1959, is hereby amended by striking out the sentence beginning on line six thereof, relating to the travel allowance of the sheriff, and substituting in lieu thereof the following sentence:

"In addition thereto the sheriff shall be entitled to a travel allowance as may be allowed him by the Board of County Commissioners, to be paid in equal monthly installments from the General Fund of the County, and not to exceed two thousand eight hundred dollars ($2,800.00) per year."

Sec. 2. Section 4 of Chapter 380, Session Laws of 1959, is hereby amended to read as follows:

"As of the effectual date of this Act, the Board of Commissioners of Macon County shall be empowered to create, in addition to the present office of County Accountant, the offices of Tax Supervisor and Tax Collector, to be filled by such persons of honesty and ability as the Board may designate, to perform such duties as may be defined by the said Board, and at salaries to be paid in the discretion of the Board of County Commissioners from the General Fund of the County; the said Board is also empowered to authorize the appointment of such deputies or assistants as may be deemed necessary to carry out the duties of said offices."

Sec. 3. All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 4. This Act shall become effective upon its ratification.
