AN ACT TO AMEND CHAPTER 90 OF THE GENERAL STATUTES, RELATING TO THE PRACTICE OF PODIATRY IN NORTH CAROLINA.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1.  The title of Article 12, Chapter 90, is hereby changed by eliminating the word "Chiropodists" and inserting in lieu thereof the word "Podiatrists".

Sec. 2.  G.S. 90-189 is hereby amended by striking out the word "chiropodist" wherever this word appears in said Section and removing the parenthetical marks around the word "podiatrist" wherever this word appears in said Section.

Sec. 3.  G.S. 90-190 is hereby amended by striking out the word "appointed" wherever this word appears and inserting in lieu thereof the word "elected" and by striking out the words "North Carolina Pedic Association" in line 3 and inserting in lieu thereof the words "North Carolina Podiatry Society". This Section is further amended by striking out the word "Association" wherever this word appears in lines 5 and 6 and line 8 and inserting in lieu thereof the word "Society".

Sec. 4.  G.S. 90-191 is amended by striking out the words "acceptable to the Board" in the last line of said Section and inserting in lieu thereof "and accredited by the National Council on Education of American Podiatry Association".

Sec. 5.  G.S. 90-192 is amended by striking out the words "diagnosis and treatment, therapeutics, clinical podiatry and asepsis" in lines 12 and 13 of said Section and inserting in lieu thereof the following: "dermatology, podiatry, surgery, materia medica, pharmacology and pathology". Said Section is further amended by striking out the words "North Carolina Pedic Association" in line 19 thereof and inserting in lieu thereof the words "North Carolina Podiatry Society".

Sec. 6.  G.S. 90-193 is amended by striking out the word "two" in line 3 thereof and inserting in lieu thereof the word "fifteen".

Sec. 7.  G.S. 90-194 is deleted in its entirety.

Sec. 8.  G.S. 90-195 is deleted in its entirety.

Sec. 9.  G.S. 90-198 is amended by striking out the words "ten dollars" in line 2 thereof and inserting in lieu thereof the words "not more than fifty dollars" and by striking out the word "fifteen" in line 2 thereof and inserting in lieu thereof the word "twenty-five". Said Section is further amended by striking out the word "four" in line 4 thereof and inserting in lieu thereof the word "seven" and by striking out the words "actual railroad expenses" in line 5 thereof and inserting in lieu thereof the words "actual travel expenses including mileage at the rate of nine cents per mile".

Sec. 10.  G.S. 90-199 is rewritten to read as follows:

"Annual Fee: Cancellation or Renewal of License. On or before the first day of July of each year every podiatrist engaged in the practice of podiatry in this State shall transmit to the secretary-treasurer of the said North Carolina State Board of Podiatry Examiners his signature and post office address, the date and year of his or her certificate, together with a fee to be set by the Board of Podiatry Examiners not to exceed fifty dollars ($50.00) and receive therefor a renewal certificate. Any license or certificate granted by said Board under or by virtue of this Section shall automatically be cancelled and annulled if the holder thereof fails to secure the renewal herein provided for within a period of 30 days after the first day of July of each year, and such delinquent podiatrist shall pay a penalty for reinstatement of five dollars ($5.00) for each succeeding month of delinquency until a six-month period of delinquency exists. After a six-month period of delinquency exists, or after January first following the July first deadline, the said podiatrist must appear before the North Carolina Board of Podiatry Examiners and take a new examination before being allowed to practice podiatry in the State of North Carolina."

Sec. 11.  G.S. 90-200 is deleted in its entirety.

Sec. 12.  All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 13.  This Act shall be in full force and effect from and after July 1, 1967.
