AN ACT TO AMEND CHAPTER 1013 OF THE SESSION LAWS OF 1961 RELATING TO MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS IN THE TOWN OF EDENTON.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

Section 1. The Charter of the Town of Edenton, being Section 1 of Chapter 1013 of the Session Laws of 1961, is hereby amended by inserting between the first and second paragraphs in Section 4 of "Chapter II. Elections" a new paragraph to read as follows:

"The councilman from each of the four (4) wards as described herein shall be elected by all the voters of the town voting at large, and candidates for such office shall have been a resident of the ward from which he is a candidate for a period of not less than thirty (30)           days next preceding the date of the election. The candidate in each of the four (4) wards receiving the largest number of votes cast by all the voters of the town shall be declared elected councilman from the ward in which he is a candidate."

Sec. 2. All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 3. This Act shall be in full force and effect from and after July 1, 1965.
