HOUSE BILL 440

 

 

AN ACT TO PROVIDE FOR THE ELECTION OF THE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION IN CHOWAN COUNTY.

 

The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact:

 

Section 1. At the general county election to be held in Chowan County in 1960 and biennially thereafter there shall be elected six members for the Chowan County Board of Education. At said election the six candidates receiving the highest number of votes cast shall be deemed elected and shall serve for terms of two years each on said board of education. Any vacancy on the county board of education for any cause shall be filled by the remaining members of the board for the unexpired term. All members of the board of education shall serve until their successors are duly elected and qualified. The nomination and election of the members of the said board of education shall be held at the same time and in the same manner as that in which other county officers are nominated and elected.

Sec. 2. The terms of the six persons named by the general Act of this 1959 General Assembly as members of the Chowan County Board of Education shall continue until their successors are duly elected and qualified as herein provided.

Sec. 3. All laws and clauses of laws in conflict with this Act are hereby repealed.

Sec. 4. This Act shall become effective upon its ratification.
